सत्‍तारूढ़ की खबरों के चलते पिछले हफ्ते फेसबुक के सीईओ मार्क जुकरबर्ग एक यात्रा की। जिसमें वह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी सोशल मीडिया डाटा संरक्षण के लिए जर्मनी में बढ़ रही घृणा की आशंका से प्रेरित नेटवर्क ओर चेहरे में छुपे जादू की एक आक्रमक मुहमि का पीछा शुरु किया। बर्लिन की एक क्षेत्रिय अदालत ने फैसला सुनाते हुए कहा कि फेसबुक पर्याप्‍त रूप से नियम और शर्तों को बदलना चाहती है। जिससे कि बौद्धिक संपदा का खंड़न होगा। उपभोक्‍ता संगठनों के परिसंघ की ओर से यह मामला दर्ज किया गय है।

उपभोक्‍ता कानून से बचता है फेसबुक
फेसबुक लगातार जर्मनी और यूरोप में उपभोक्‍ता कानून से बचने की कोशशि करता आ रहा है। क्‍लाउस मुलर ने एक बयान में कहा कंपनियों को न्‍यायिक फैसलों को लागू करना चाहिए और तब तक उन्‍हें चुप नहीं बैठना चाहिए। बर्लिन आदलत के लिए एक प्रवक्‍ता ने सत्‍तारूढ़ पुष्टि की है। एक जर्मन अदालत ने कहा कि फेसबुक के नियम और शर्तें अभी तक साफ नहीं हुई हैं जो यूजर्स के लिए उनकी बौद्धिक संपदा हैं। तीसरे पक्ष को लाइसेंस देकर तस्‍वीरों वीडियो का उपयोग किया जा सकता है।  Read more Tech News http://inextlive.jagran.com/tech-news

Tracking net neutrality debate in India, says Facebook's Chris Daniels

Tech News - The platform, unveiled on Monday, will be open to all developers who meet certain guidelines, including content being built for browsing on both feature and smartphones and in limited bandwidth scenarios, the company said in a statement.
             
The move comes amid growing debate in India, home to the world's third-largest population of Internet users, over free access and net neutrality in the country.
             
"We've heard the debate about net neutrality in India and have been tracking it," Chris Daniels, vice president of product for Internet.org, said.
             
"The principles of neutrality must co-exist with programs that also encourage bringing people online," Daniels said, highlighting that Internet.org was open to mobile operators and involved no payments, either to or from the developers.

Facebook partnered with Reliance Communications to launch Internet.org in India in February. But a number of e-commerce firms and content developers pulled out of the service subsequently as activists claimed it violated principles of net neutrality - the concept that all websites on the internet are treated equally.
             
Facebook has launched the service in nine countries, including in India, bringing over 8 million people online, said Daniels, who was in India to speak with partners and operators.

Stream live video with new Twitter app

Tech News - Periscope would be competing with Meerkat - a similar app that came out a few weeks ago. Both apps are currently only available on the iPhone.

"I was watching a guy walking down the street in Paris and I was like, oh that's pretty cool. Look at the weather in Paris," CTV Ottawa quoted a female user as saying.

Many people wonder if Periscope will catch on in the long run. As what most people are streaming right now is "pretty boring".However, another user, a professor at the University of Ottawa's Telfer School of Business specialising in social media, felt the technology must be given some time.

He pointed out that other platforms, like YouTube, showed some pretty boring stuff at first. But then people started getting creative to attract more views.

"With this platform we may see something similar, creative livestreaming approaches that weren't possible before," the professor was quoted as saying.

Such new apps give people an opportunity to make more intimate connections. Family members, for example, can instantly share their vacations with people back home.

Twitter CEO wins breathing room from Wall Street critics

The Internet company said on Thursday that recently launched products and partnerships have set the stage for it to expand its audience.
             
The optimistic comments, as well as fourth-quarter revenue that topped analyst forecasts, were well received by investors. Twitter's stock jumped 9 percent to $45 in after hours trading.
             
"The stock is going to be up, because it's probably better than what people expected. But now they have to deliver," said Wedbush Securities analyst Shyam Patil.
             
"You can't jump on the bandwagon based on the commentary; you've got to see the numbers come through," he said.
             
Twitter has struggled to grow the number of users on its service, raising questions about whether it can achieve the scale of social network Facebook Inc, which has 1.39 billion users, or even fast-growing messaging and photo apps such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
             
CEO Costolo is facing mounting criticism on Wall Street, with many analysts and investors frustrated by the company's slow growth and seemingly constant shake-ups in its upper ranks.

Google seals deal with Twitter for tweets in search

Tweets will be visible in Google search results as soon as they are posted. It is likely to start by June. A Google spokeswoman on Thursday confirmed the partnership between the two companies.

Twitter and Google engineers have started working on the project. However, the terms of deal were not disclosed. The tweets will start showing up on Google later this year, according to sources.

Google previously had to crawl Twitter's site for the information, which will now come automatically from Twitter.

Google had a similar arrangement with Twitter back in 2009. Twitter’s feed became a core part of a Google real-time search feature under which it served up fresh content from Twitter and a variety of other sources, including Facebook, Myspace, FriendFeed, Jaiku and Identi.ca.

Facebook, Instagram suffer widespread outage

"Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can," Facebook said on its website.

Users in United States and many countries in Asia and Europe reported that they were unable to log on to the website and mobile apps.

Representatives at Facebook were not immediately available for comment. It may be mentioned here that the temporary loss of service may be Facebook’s biggest outage since September 24, 2010 when it was down for about 2.5 hours.

An Instagram spokesman posted on Twitter: "We're aware of an outage affecting Instagram and are working on a fix. Thank you for your patience."

Now, access WhatsApp on desktops!

With over 600 million users globally, WhatsApp till now was available only on smartphones across operating systems Android, iOS, Windows and BlackBerry.
  
"Today, for the first time, millions of you will have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser," WhatsApp said in its blog.
  
The web client is an extension of the user's phone with the web browser mirroring conversations and messages from the user's mobile device, it added.
  
"This means all of your messages still live on your phone," it said.
  
To connect the web browser to WhatsApp client, users need to open 'web.whatsapp.com' in Google Chrome browser and scan the QR code inside of WhatsApp.
  
"Your phone needs to stay connected to the internet for our web client to work, and please make sure to install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone," it said.
  
Currently, the service is available only for Android devices as Apple platform has certain limitations.

Facebook puts warning labels on graphic videos

The California-based Internet giant will also prevent potentially shocking or upsetting video clips from popping into News Feeds of members whose profiles say they are younger than 18 years old.

Facebook allows children as young as 13 to join.

"When people share things on Facebook, we expect they will share responsibly, including who will see that content," a Facebook spokesman said.

"In instances when people report graphic content to us that should include warnings, or is not appropriate for people under the age of 18, we may add a warning for adults and prevent young people from viewing the content."

Facebook began adding warnings and age filters in November after the introduction of a feature that causes videos in News Feeds to automatically start playing. Users must now click on warning labels for those videos to play.

Twitter’s ‘While you were away’ recap feature rolls out for many users

The new feature includes what the micro blogging site thinks to be the best tweets to the top of a user's timeline the next time they open their Twitter account, reports said. It works like Facebook's news feed that presents status updates and posts in a ranked manner.

It is the first major Twitter feature beyond promoted tweets and adverts to sort tweets in a non-chronological fashion, the report added."Every time you open the Twitter app, you'll see something great," Twitter said when it announced the new feature as part of its "Timeline Highlights" improvements.

The new feature aims at preserving important tweets that could get drowned out by the rapid flow of tweets on a daily basis.

Twitter goes down for some Android users

There have been several complaints from users of logging out of their Twitter accounts from Android apps and some third part accounts like TweetDeck. Users who tried to log into Twitter were met with an error message and were not be able to get access to their account, GeekWire reported.

TweetDeck users reported that all their tweets show as 365 days old. On social networking site Reddit, several users wrote they could not log in and some thought that their account had been hacked.

Only Apple iOS devices were working fine for logging into Twitter. According to Twitter, "some users are currently having trouble signing in to twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve this".

iPhone to help you track your tweets

"You need to sign in to the Twitter analytics page with your account so that the company can start collecting the mobile analytics data," said Ian Chan, a software engineering manager at Twitter.

Make sure you have upgraded your Twitter iPhone app to the latest version. Open the app, and tap any tweet you have posted, CNET reported.

At the bottom of the tweet, you will see a link that says "View Analytics Details". Now tap that link.

In response, Twitter shows you the analytics for that specific tweet. The total impressions displays the number of times people saw your tweet, while the total engagements reveals the number of people who actually retweeted or favorited your tweet.

Facebook must face lawsuit for scanning of users' messages, says US Judge

U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton in Oakland, California, on Tuesday dismissed some state-law claims against the social media company but largely denied Facebook's bid to dismiss the lawsuit.
             
Facebook had argued that the alleged scanning of its users' messages was covered by an exception under the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act for interceptions by service providers occurring in the ordinary course of business.
             
But Hamilton said Facebook had "not offered a sufficient explanation of how the challenged practice falls within the ordinary course of its business."
             
Neither Facebook nor a lawyer for the plaintiffs responded to a request for comment Wednesday.
             
The lawsuit, filed in 2013, alleged that Facebook scanned the content of private messages sent between users for links to websites and would then count any links in a tally of "likes" of the pages.
             
Those "likes" were then used to compile user profiles, which were then used for delivering targeted advertising to its users, the lawsuit said.

WhatsApp can be available on desktop soon: Report

The reports reveal that the WhatsApp is working on a web version. A recent WhatsApp update (v2.11.471) has mentions of 'WhatsApp Web' within its code.

Further, the code mentions references to logging in/out of computers as well as tracking user statuses online. The report also reveals that the code has no mention of Facebook as such, indicating that users might not need to log into the web-based service via their respective Facebook accounts.          

According to the Dutch website, ‘WhatsApp Web’ has been mentioned inside the code of a recent WhatsApp update. However, there is still no official word from WhatsApp regarding the matter.

WhatsApp has 600 million active users globally, out of which 70 million users in India. Facebook completed its USD 19 billion buy of mobile messaging application WhatsApp in October.
