WhatsApp to roll out its voice calling feature in Windows phone soon

Tech News -  In a reply to a question asked by a Windows Phone user, WhatsApp support team indicated that the feature for voice calling for them is in developmental stage.

"WhatsApp Calling for your platform [Windows Phone] is still in the works," it said.

However, the email hasn't specified any  time-frame for its roll out for Windows Phone users.

"We cannot comment on any future release timelines but we appreciate your interest in WhatsApp Calling," the mail further said.

Whatsapp introduces voice calling feature for Android users

Tech News - The voice-calling can be activated by receiving a call from someone whose voice-calling is already activated. After you get the call, you need to close and then reopen the app. After that, instead of seeing the most recent chats, you will get three tabs namely Calls, Chats and Contacts. The call tab shows incoming, outgoing and missed calls at the precise times.

Other messenger apps which provides voice-calling facility are Hike, Viber, Line, Nanu, among others.
WhatsApp, which is attracting around 70 million monthly users, can add another edge to its user base in India with this add-on feature.

Android smartphone users will be able to use the feature and company has stayed any word on whether and when it will be released for iOS and other users.

WhatsApp's voice calling feature had went live a few times before but was quickly shutdown. Users will get to know if voice calling is active on their account if the main UI automatically gets updated which will feature three different tabs where one will be allocated for calls, a second for chats and a third for the contacts list.

Whatsapp rolls out voice-calling feature through invites

The feature was first tested for selective users and then launched. However, one needs to get an invitation from WhatsApp to add on the feature in his or her mobile messaging application.


Earlier, users whose voice-calling feature was activated had the advantage of passing the invitation to their friends by making a call through WhatsApp, but the invite feature was later on removed.


Android WhatsApp users with version 2.11.528 from Play Store or 2.11.531 from website, who are able to see caller icon on the app, can easily make a voice call to their friends.
The WhatsApp website, however, claims that the users can also pass on the invitation to others.

But, WhatsApp that reportedly is the much famous messaging app than others, attracting around 70 million active monthly users, can add another edge to its user base in India with this add-on feature.
