Pakistan releases 36 Indian prisoners

The prisoners will be repatriated to India through the Wagah border check post near Lahore. The prisoners said they were very happy to be released and could not wait to be reunited with their loved ones.

They also said they were treated fairly in Pakistan. At least 419 Indian fishermen are currently held in Karachi's district prison Malir.

Such arrests are frequently carried out by both countries, as the maritime border in the Arabian Sea is poorly defined and many fishing boats lack the technology needed to be certain of their precise location.

The fishermen often languish in jail even after serving their term, as poor diplomatic ties between the two arch rivals mean fulfilling official requirements can take a long time.

Wagah blast: Death toll rises to 61, India strongly condemns it

In a statement here, External Affairs Ministry said, "There is no grievance or political goal so great as to justify such a cowardly act. We believe that only the firmest and most comprehensive action against all terror groups
without any distinction is the only way to defeat this evil scourge."

The Ministry also said India's "prayers will remain with the families of the victims, who we hope will be granted the courage and fortitude to overcome this irreparable loss that they have just suffered.".
The death toll in the horrific suicide attack that shook Pakistan minutes after the popular flag-lowering ceremony at Wagah climbed to 61 on Monday, even as security agencies arrested about 20 suspects from the Indo-Pak border area.
Ten women, eight children and three security personnel were among the 61 people who have died in the attack that took place yesterday when a suicide attacker detonated a powerful bomb at Wagah.

Over 100 people were injured in the incident and are being treated in different Lahore's hospitals where emergency has been declared.
